As we head into a new year, we are often reminded of what we learned, what we went through and who was there to help us along the way.
This year in particular, I’m grateful for the support of fellow business owners, specifically women-owned businesses. I am amazed by the support I have received, from referrals to orders, shared social media posts and brainstorm sessions.
Women owners understand the typical challenges of running a business, compounded by the societal, emotional and familial responsibilities we all face. Women owners are a special division of superhero, I think; we are professional jugglers, after all.
And, together, we make ourselves and our businesses better.
How can you support a women-owned business? There are many ways:
· I am a member of Gro Your Biz, a women-only business advisory panel. We meet (virtually) once a month to discuss our business wins and challenges, and, like its name suggests, how to grow our business. This group is made up of fellow business-owners from varied industries. You’ll get honest feedback and a wealth of connections from your fellow members.
· I am also proud to have a WBE Canada Certification. WBE Canada (Women Business Enterprises Canada Council) is a Canadian non-profit organization that opens doors for Canadian women-owned businesses to supply chains across Canada, North America and globally. WBE Canada certifies, supports and promotes Canadian Women Business Enterprises who provide products or services to corporations and government organizations.
· Network. While more challenging during a pandemic, there are still many conferences and events being hosted online. Don’t just register, participate.
· Share, LIKE, Repost. If you have a friend or associate who owns a business, give them some social media love. Engage in their posts, share, like, and comment. These little acts of connection, especially in a year where we have had very little, mean a lot.
In 2021, if you haven’t already, support women-owned.
